eBay charges one final value fee when an item sells: a percentage of the total amount of the sale (item price, handling, buyer-paid shipping and sales tax) plus a per-order fee of $0.30 on orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 above that (eBay Help: Selling fees (eBay.com)). The percentage depends on the category. Most categories pay 13.6%; the table below has every exception eBay lists.

The rates are copied from eBay's own table on its Selling fees help page, read in full on Oct 30, 2026. Categories not named there pay the Most categories rate. eBay Motors vehicles and Real Estate have their own fees and are not shown.
Insertion fees: the first 250 listings a month are free, then $0.35 per listing, in every category above except three: Guitars & basses list free, Athletic shoes list free with a starting price of $150 or more, and Select Business & Industrial is $20 per listing.
Where the rate changes
- “Up to $7,500” rates are progressive. Only the part of the total above $7,500 gets 2.35%. Watches have three bands: 15% to $1,000, 6.5% from $1,000 to $7,500, 3% above.
- Handbags, jewelry and bullion switch the whole amount. A $2,000.00 handbag order pays 15% ($300.40 in fees); at $2,000.01 the whole total drops to 9% ($180.40). Jewelry switches at $5,000, bullion at $7,500 (13.6% to 7%).
- Athletic shoes at $150. At a $150.00 order total the fee is 8% with no per-order fee ($12.00); at $149.99 it is 13.6% plus $0.40 ($20.80). Insertion is free when the starting price is $150 or more.
- Guitars & basses pay 6.7% and list free. Select Business & Industrial (heavy equipment, commercial printing presses, food trucks) pays 3% to $15,000 and 0.5% above, with a $20 insertion fee.
An example from eBay
eBay's Seller Center shows a seller who lists golf clubs (most categories) at $150. The buyer pays $210.50 with $50 shipping and $10.50 sales tax. The fee is 13.6% of $210.50 plus the $0.40 per-order fee: $29.03 (eBay Seller Center: Seller fees). The lookup above gives $29.03 for the same order; our test suite checks it.
Not included
eBay Store subscriber rates (see is an eBay Store worth it?), Promoted Listings, optional listing upgrades, the 1.65% international fee, the seller currency conversion charge, and extra final value fees for Below Standard sellers (6%, 7% after four months) or a Very High “item not as described” return rate (5%, 6% after four months). eBay lists all of these on the same help page.
