Most fee calculators start from a price. This one starts from the money you want in your pocket and works backward, so you can price a listing before you post it. To keep $50 on a sale with $8 buyer shipping, 7.5% sales tax and a $10 item cost, Depop needs the lowest price ($62.97) and Poshmark the highest ($75.00).

“You keep” is what’s left after the marketplace’s fees, your shipping label and what you paid for the item. On Poshmark the buyer pays for the label, so shipping doesn’t change your price there.

Watch the fee steps

  • Poshmark’s $15 line: under $15 the fee is a flat $2.95; at $15 and up it’s 20% (Poshmark: Guide to Poshmark (fees)). To keep $12.03 with no other costs you can list at $14.98, but $15.00 to $15.03 leaves you less. Any price from $15.04 works again.
  • eBay’s per-order fee: $0.30 when the order total is $10.00 or less, $0.40 above it (eBay Help: Selling fees (eBay.com)). To keep $8.34 with no shipping or tax, $10.00 works, but $10.01 to $10.10 falls short.
  • eBay athletic shoes: 8% with no per-order fee once the order total is $150 or more, 13.6% plus the per-order fee below that. Pick Athletic shoes under Advanced and the calculator finds the lowest price either side of the line.

The calculator flags a step like this under the platform’s result when it’s just above your price.

Not included

Promoted listings and ads (including Etsy Offsite Ads), eBay Store subscriptions and insertion fees, Poshmark label upgrades for boxes over 5 lb, Whatnot’s high-value promotion and promotional rates, offers, and income tax. If you plan to take offers, price higher: the Poshmark offer calculator shows your walk-away price.

How the math works, what we assume, and where every fee rule comes from.

How we calculate

For each marketplace we run the same fee code as our calculators: your list price, the shipping you charge and the buyer’s sales tax, the platform’s published US fee rules (linked under Sources), minus your shipping label and what you paid for the item. Each fee is rounded to the cent.

To work backward we find the first whole dollar that reaches your target, then check every cent below it, so the price shown is the lowest one, to the cent, that leaves you at least your target. Fees aren’t always smooth (Poshmark’s $15 line, eBay’s per-order step), so we also check every cent for $25 above that price and tell you if any of them falls short. Targets that need more than $100,000 show as not reachable. It is an estimate: your platform’s statement is the final word.

What we assume

US seller, US buyer, US dollars, one item per order, standard account in good standing, no promotions, ads, refunds, currency conversion or instant-payout fees. Sales tax is collected and remitted by the marketplace, so it is never part of your payout, but eBay, Whatnot (processing), Depop and Etsy (processing) still charge a percentage on it. "Payout" is what the platform sends you; "profit" also subtracts your label and item cost. Each fee line is rounded to the cent.
